Romance ignites amidst the tumult of a territory striving to find its identity as it passes from pre-colonial rule to US statehood and beyond. Parts 1 and 2 of the Louisiana History Collection present these lush, politically tense historical romances in chronological order.

FIERCE EDEN
Reynaud, half Natchez Indian, requires that Elise share his bedroll in exchange for saving her friends during an uprising. Widowed after a brutish marriage, Elise fears intimacy more than the Natchez. How can she view Reynaud as an enemy after his tender introduction to love?

LOUISIANA DAWN
Cyrene rescues a handsome rake from drowning for the sake of his silver lace. In return, she requests he relieve her of her tiresome virginity. She expects to be her own woman afterward…but fails to reckon with René’s skill or her own lonely heart.

EMBRACE AND CONQUER
Félicité despises the Irish colonel who marches into New Orleans with the Spanish conquerors; pride demands she escape from his beguiling embrace. Will he let her go, or follow into the trap of a pirate’s lair?

Louisiana History Collection Volume 1 Louisiana History Boxed Sets edition by Jennifer Blake Romance eBooks

While these books are well researched, as other reviewers have stated, the editing is sorely lacking. The glaring typos made it hard to immerse myself into. The heroes were morally questionable and the heroines were pretty vapid, for all of their posturing for independence.

Book one has coercive intimacy with Elise, which was gross enough without adding all of the shifting loyalties and high-handed maneuvering by Reynaud that will make your head spin. Book two was hardly better, with Cyrene being basically sold into being mistress to Réne, who gives every indication of betraying everyone she cares about—and somehow that creates a recipe for true love. The last straw for me was the violent rape scene in book three. It wasn't even concluded before the author minimized it away into a) Félicite's fault, b) something she kind of enjoyed, and c) a precursor to more happily ever after.

Not even the lush historical backdrop can save these. I understand they're historical, but I absolutely refuse to accept that something marketed a "historical romance" should feature blatant rape and misogyny packaged as a so-called love story.

Louisiana History Collection Volume 1 Louisiana History Boxed Sets edition by Jennifer Blake Romance eBooks Reviews

I wish I would have read the reviews before I delved into this. The first book was... okay, but left me a little uncomfortable. The second book was just boring to me, so I skipped it. But the third book is where I drew the line. A graphic rape scene between the heroine and the 'love interest' and then everyone acting like it's no big deal? Absolutely disgusting.
The first story was interesting enough to make me want to read the next, but the last two I certainly could have done without. The second story used sex as so much of a filler there was barely anything worth reading and I only pushed through hoping the third could be better. I was wrong. How a story of a girl falling in love with her rapist could even been written in this day and age is beyond my comprehension. Sadly, those last two stories were a HUGE waste of my time.
I really enjoyed these books !!! I agree there are a few editing problems but not enough to ruin my reading (guess I am accustomed to my own errors ) but the strong history was very interesting !!!! All 3 were long enough and involved enough to keep me interested and never really sure of the outcome !!! These locations of the books have so much history...so much blood shed, changing governments and the citizens abused by so much corruption from the governments so far away !!!! I love History and anyone familiar with the struggles can see just how petty the current government is by removing the Confederate Monument !!!! I am looking forward to reading the historical research documents listed on the first book !!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE WONDERFUL ENTERTAINMENT !!!!!
Overall
The writing was great, very descriptive and detailed. The history was well researched and the characters were developed, sharp-edged and varied. The editing could have been better. I also noticed an overall theme of sexual coercion that ran through out all three books.
Book 1, Fierce Eden, was a 5 star read. The customs and exploits were interesting, fast and exciting. The romance was steamy, but not overly explicit. The heroine was courageous and feisty and the hero eventually caught up to his own greatness. The ending was perfect.
Book 2, Louisiana Dawn, is a 3 star read. Again, the heroine was brave and spunky, but the hero was not likable. The pace as a little slower, but this book had a bit more mystery. The ending was ok.
Book 3, Embrace and Conquer, was a 2 star read. It was divided into two parts. The first part was very dark and disturbing because of the times, but also because the hero was actually beyond redemption, even to the point of. The second part was a little better, but I still had a hard time finishing it. I was annoyed by the heroines emotional weaknesses in this book as much as in the second book.
I downloaded this book as a freebee, and because the first story was so good, I downloaded the second boxed set for 99 cents. I will probably read the next set, but I may take a break before starting them.
Thought this was a beautifully written, excruciatingly researched historical picture of the French colonies in North America. I was so impressed with the accuracy and the realistic look at native culture. But each was at heart, a romance story that I thought were clumsy and unbelievable. I felt their heroines were so strong, independent and inspiring -- yet they completely dropped every bit of moral fibre when faced with their very nasty male counterparts. The romances just wernt relatable or believable.
The first two books in this collection were ok - nothing spectacular. I stopped reading the third one (as in figuratively slammed shut and deleted from my device) when I got to the scene where the heroine is raped - RAPED - by the "hero". Are you freaking kidding me??? This was written by a woman? And I know how it ends just from reading previous reviews - oh yes, she falls in love and they live happily ever after. I will never, ever pick up anything written by Jennifer Blake again. I am disgusted.
This boxed set is just okay. I was looking forward to it after reading other novels by the author. However, like one previous reviewer mentioned, it reads like soft porn which I guess is okay if that's your thing. However, I was looking forward to more romance and history. I do have to say that the last story in the boxed set, the one featuring Felicite left me disappointed in the extreme. It was incredibly ridiculous that the "hero" of the story is also her rapist, and she goes and freakin falls in love with him. It really left me upset that the author chose to have their relationship develop this way, and worse, that Felicite sees the rape as her due for her imagined wrong-doings in regard to her dad. Like i said, just meh. I'm happy I got this for free while it was still being offered, otherwise I would want my money back
