Losing his spouse of nearly twenty-eight years to fast moving cancer the author found himself facing loneliness like never before. To combat this powerful malady, he took the most logical steps he could think of. Within eight months of her passing he had married a woman he barely knew, and decided to live life in the fast lane, on a motorcycle much of the time.
“Two Years on the Run” is the story of the author and his wife, also widowed, attempting to build a history together. As they travel to Alaska, Florida, and Maui, backpack Zion National Park and take many motorcycle trips in the first two years of their marriage; they face their painful pasts and build memories together.
As you travel with the author and his spouse, you’ll enjoy his self-deprecating humor as he describes his attempts to transition into this new life. You’ll face the challenges with them as they travel four thousand miles in two weeks on their bikes, overcoming the elements and the author’s mechanical ineptitude. Along the way you’ll laugh with and at the author and learn interesting facts about the places they visit.

This is well written and fun book in spite of the author's starting point of dealing with the loss of his wife. The trip descriptions are well done with just enough background of the places they visit to make it interesting and personal without bogging down.In spite of it's well done travel tales it is really a book that belongs in the "How Not To" book list. As a biker of more than forty years I cringed all the way through the book at the basic mistakes they made but got away with. This is the first bike trip book where someone had to buy a new bike halfway through a two week trip.
It was fun to read about roads and places I remember though mostly on four wheels for me.
It is not a long book but at the price is a very good read.

Two Years on the Run eBook Luther Maddy Reviews
I enjoy motorcycle touring stories and this one was perhaps average. It was a bit shocking the chances the author and his wife took as novice motorcyclists.
It was a good story. It could have been a little more detailed on the places the went to.
Not really about motorcycling. His self-deprecating humor about his eating too much got old. I wish him well in the future but don't think long motorcyle touring is in it.
Mr. Maddy, a fellow Idahoan, made his story of riding with new wife enjoyable. He mentioned that they had met on an online dating site and then went on to tell about their differences. I thought "didn't they discuss alot of this when they were communicating?". He is blessed that his wife will ride with him on her own bike.
Good writing but really dumb rider. These are the kind that get splattered all over the hi way and make insurance go up.
Its a well written book. It held my attention from beginning till end. I will read more of his writing. Well done. Thanks
I chose this book because I am a new motorcycle enthusiasts and wanted to read about other's experiences. It was interesting to me because a lot of the rides this couple has done are the same ones that my husband and I have done. I was surprised at how unprepared they were, but that things turned out OK for them ~ even having to buy a new bike along the way. We are totally the opposite type of rider who always have our bike checked out before our long ride and pack according to what will fit on the bike. They also traveled huge distances daily which we try to avoid. We are much more of the 200 miles a day is considered a VERY long ride. Just shows how what's right for one couple may not be right for another.
