A great continuation of the series. Xander's story. The brooding big brother is finally featured. And it is a great story where you learn so much about him.

For a lot of us, music is a healing force. It stirs emotions and stirs memories. It can bring us back to a place where things were right before they went terribly wrong, and it can remind us of what we had. Xander has experienced all of this. When Ivy steps back into his life after all these years, it presents Xander with an opportunity to make things right. Years ago he made a decision for both of them that hurt them both, taking on the role of the bad guy. He has been living with the consequences of that decision for years.

Things start getting cleared up. He and Ivy are starting over. Then things go all wrong. Ivy has to make a decision that she knows will destroy Xander, but it is the only choice she can make. And now she understands what Xander went through all those years ago. She now understands Xander did what he had to do out of love for her. And she hopes that he will understand that she has to do the same thing now. The resolution of this story is not something you will want to miss.

Kim Karr is an amazing author. Her use of music to enhance the reading experience is absolutely amazing. Why hasn't someone thought of this before. While some of the music is not my style and not something I would buy, it definitely makes the reading more intense. She has done an exceptional job of connecting the reader to the characters. You are touched by their lives; by the people they are and the people they want to be. These characters are real. As a reader, you can see identify with these people. You want them to succeed. You want their dreams to come true. And you want to be there when it happens. You want to revisit their lives again and again. Kudos to you, Ms. Karr, for finding your calling and embracing your gift.

Each book can be read as a stand alone. But you get a way better experience reading from the beginning.

Mended is book 3 in the Connections series, and is the story of Xander and Ivy.

With every book Kim Karr publishes, I'm blown away with her ability to make us connect with her characters. Mended was no exception. From the beginning of the book I was drawn to the story and once I started reading, I had a hard time putting it down. This is a beautiful second chance love story, full of surprising moments, both happy and very sad ones.

We met Xander in Connected and saw more of him in Torn. He is River's older brother and he is a hunk!! Not only is he is deliciously yummy, he also has a big heart. He has the whole tough exterior act down, and for reasons that we'll learn while the story progresses. Ivy was Xander's high school sweetheart. She is beautiful and her voice is amazing, she is very strong, but has had a tough childhood. And having her mother pushing her to do things she doesn't love, doesn't help her situation. Xander and Ivy were made for each other, and whilst reading snippets from the past and how their relationship worked all those years ago, you can see theirs, was the forever kind of love. But life gets in the way, mistrust, miscommunication, and other obstacles have them going separate ways.

"I was broken. His love broke me, and music was my only refuge."

Fast forward 12 years, while The Wilde Ones are on tour, Xander and Ivy meet again. This is no happy reunion, its clear Ivy hates him and feels she can never trust him again, and Xander is not happy to see her either, but for entirely different reasons. See, Ivy is engaged, and to a man Xander hates.

"I felt a sharp jab of pain for what we had shared as the eyes of the boy I once loved quickly morphed into the eyes of the man I hated."

Circumstances have Ivy joining The Wilde Ones as the lead singer for the remainder part of their tour. Being around Xander all the time is proving to be extremely difficult. But she is not the only one having a hard time, they both are. Feelings start resurfacing and you can see how much they love each other after so many years apart. They decided they needed to at least work in building a friendship while on tour, since they were all living on a bus and always together.

"I'm standing in this huge stadium with so many other people around and he's still all I see."

The chemistry between them is off the charts. When they are near each other, they can both feel the connection and it's extremely hard to ignore. Of course when they start working things out, life comes and knocks them down, again. Can they forgive each other? Can a broken heart be mended? I guess you'll have to read to find out.

"Do you think relationships can work that way?" "What way is that?" "That something once broken, irreparably, like us, can be so easily mended?"

The Connections series is one of my all time favorites. Mended was a great addition to the series and I have to say sweet, loving, protector, swoony Xander stole my heart. Kim's writing is perfection, I can't recommend this book enough, go get your copy, you will not regret it.
