I loved the fresh voice and original storyline of the first book, but really, this one focused (spoilers ahead!) way too much on the rape of one of the main characters. It's really a graphic telling of an assault over and over and over again. I feel like the author relied a bit too much on this particular event and focused entirely too much on it through the book. There were so many other characters, and backstories, that I would have liked to have read more about, but I'm hopeful that the next book will do that.Tags : Claimed (Servants of Fate Book 2) - Kindle edition by Sarah Fine. Claimed Servants of Fate Book 2 eBook Sarah Fine Reviews
I wan't terribly impressed with "Marked," book 1 in the series. However, these books are free with Unlimited so I figured I'd go ahead and read "Claimed." Boy am I glad I did! While I liked the supernatural elements and plot twists in "Marked," the love story between Cacy and Eli seemed contrived. It read like a trashy romance. However, "Claimed" deals more with the relationship between Dec and Galena, and is treated in a much more mature way. There were still graphic sex scenes, but at least I was pulling for the characters. The suspense has also been ratcheted way up, and I can't wait to find out what happens next. I am eagerly awaiting book 3 in the series, where it seems we may find out more about Moros and Aislin.
This was a fabulous follow up to the first book. This book picks up about a week after the first book leaves off. The first book absolutely does not technically leave in a cliffhanger but it did introduce us to the next book. The book focused on a new set of protagonist however it did weave in the characters from the first book flawless. The main characters were never overshadowed by the other characters at any point. Even though this book was focused on two different people it still brought in things that were touched upon in the first book and continued the story started in the first book. The ones leaves off just as the first one did no cliffhanger but with a introduction to the third book which not will keep me anxiously waiting for it.
I really liked the first book in this series, so was looking forward to reading the second and it did not disappoint.
This is not quite as good as the first, but still a great book in the series. It's a really fast read, at least it was for me. It's full of tense moments, sexy moments, crazy moments, magical moments and more.
I have to say I really like the two part narrative, focusing on two main characters. Like in the last book, but this time it's Dec and Galena.
This is a great read if you like science fiction and fantasy books, as it's one part sci-fi one part fantasy.
Read it.
I first encountered Sarah Fine when I read the first book in this series, and I was instantly hooked. The second book is a very enjoyable continuation of the series. Although many aspects of the story are common to the genres it pulls from, Fine combines paranormal romance and the futuristic dystopia in a fresh and appealing way that I found very engaging, even though neither genre is my favorite on its own. The characters and their situations are instantly recognizable as types from the genres, but are still individual and appealing, in a combination that satisfies on the archetypal level while still being unique enough for them to stand out from the crowd. The device of switching back and forth between character viewpoints is also used effectively to heighten the tension and dramatic irony. So if you are looking for a really well-constructed (sexy) romance with elements of both sci fi and fantasy, you should definitely check out this series. The third installment is promised for the fall; I'm already excited!
I got the first book in this series as an Prime pick of the month, and I absolutely loved it and had a hard time putting it down. That lead me to purchase the second book (this book) in the series and I liked it equally well, and I just got started on the third book. These characters are so well defined and you get into their lives an learn about them and more and more secrets as you go along - always in suspense for what is going to happen next while rooting for your favorite characters. It does not hurt that there is a somewhat sci-fi/fantasy background to the book, and it is set well into the future after many devastating things happen to the world - there are still the two main groupings of people - those who have it, and those who don't, but this introduces a new take on what happens at the end of life as well. There are plenty of good guys, victims and villains, along with several very well developed steamy scenes that will certainly get your blood moving a bit faster. I would strongly recommend this series to anyone who likes this genre, and I also have my eye on another 3 book series of hers that I may move on to after I finish the last of this one. I can't wait to see how it ends!
I enjoyed "Claimed" as much as the first book in the series, "Marked". "Claimed" begins petty much where "Marked" ended. The characters are mostly continued from the first book, so they are already fairly developed. The two main players in this part of the story were present in the first volume, but each book so far, features different characters in lead roles. New characters are introduced here that will likely play a role in the next book. The world Sara Fine has created is a somewhat dark concept of a future where environmental catastrophe has left American cities facing extreme conditions, however the elements of the story that deal with death, dying and the afterlife is the real crux of the story. While her plot is very much a fantasy (we hope), her writing is convincing and completely engulfs you in the world she has created. There is plenty of down to earth reality to help keep the fantasy elements grounded and believable for a not too distant future. I have thoroughly enjoyed both volumes in this series and I am looking forward to the next. One word of warning, there is significant sexual content described in these books and I would suggest it as adult reading.
There were so many other characters, and backstories, that I would have liked to have read more about, but I'm hopeful that the next book will do that.
